Hurtta - Stylish and functional dog coats and accessories, so you can go for walkies, whatever the weather!
Hurtta is a premium dog wear brand born in Finland, also known as “the wild North”, known for its unpredictable weather, stunning scenery and of course, unrelenting winters. The Hurtta story began here, where dogs needed to be protected from cold and ever-changing extreme conditions.
Hurtta is without doubt the most functional and considered brand we have ever experienced. The attention to detail, clever designs and durability really make it stand out from the crowd. It’s just a bonus that it all happens to be mega stylish too!
For us, its highly unusual to find a dog brand that works for all three of our pooches. We have Puggy, a chunky Pug with a wide neck and a short body who hates anything touching his legs. We have Pops, an elderly dachshund who loves to be warm and dry! And finally, Pomegranate, a high energy, ultra-fluffy Pomeranian who is ready to explore and get dirty at a moment’s notice! So, when we finally discovered Hurtta, we were thrilled to find their diverse range of style and sizes meant there was something for everyone and all three dogs were expertly catered for!
Little Pops is arguable the most difficult, with her long, slim body, deep chest and tiny legs, dog coats either swamp her entirely or end up looking like a crop top. Neither of which are desirable! For our woodland walkies in the winter, we swear by the expedition parka coat in ‘blackberry’ for little pops. Firstly, the colour and fit are perfect for her. She wears the size 25cm and it just covers her backside and even has longer sides so ensure her hips stay cosy too! Perfect for a little old lady with arthritis, recovering from a spinal surgery! The jacket is thermal, meaning Pops is toasty warm for the duration of our walk and we love that the coat also covers her chest, making sure she holds on to as much body heat as possible! The jacket has so many features ensuring your dog is comfortable and safe. Such as the elasticated rear leg loops to keep the coat in place, and reflective piping to ensure your dog is visible even on the gloomiest days.
Lastly, my favourite element of the jacket is the built-in harness! Its genius! The coat itself acts as a harness to connect Pops’ lead to meaning she doesn’t have to wear both making her less bulky and free to explore and roam in comfort. For those of you who don’t know, Pops has had major spinal surgery, so keeping her back comfortable and supported without any unnecessary pressure points is vital, which is why the built-in harness is just so perfect for our little senior diva!
For the fairer weather, we also highly recommend the weekend warrior harnesses, which is absolutely the best we have ever tried for little Pops. Our fave is the neon lemon colour as it’s so bright as sassy you can see her coming for miles! Of course, it’s easy to adjust, super comfortable, weatherproof, and reflective! What’s not to love!?
We also mentioned our other pooch, Pomegranate. She is a ball of fluffy, hyperactive energy and loves her daily adventures in the woods and beyond. We have never found a jacket or jumper that she will even walk in so when saw how comfortable she was in the Razzle Dazzle Mid layer jacket, we immediately purchased another colour as it was exactly what we have been looking for!
The Razzle Dazzle jacket is a light, thermal, well-fitting dog fleece, perfect for dogs like Pomegranate who have loads of fur, but just need a covering on colder days and to protect her fur from getting destroyed when she’s being a tomboy!
We have the Razzle Dazzle mid layer jacket in both ‘beetroot’ and ‘blackberry’, and we love that they are reversable too! They have a long neck which helps in the chilly weather, but it can be adjusted if that doesn’t work for you. The Razzle Dazzle is also so thin and lightweight that a harness over the top makes no difference what so ever and Pomegranate can explore in comfort and style!
Harness wise, Pomegranate wears the same style and size as little pops, despite being substantially larger! The adjustability and flexibility of these harnesses really is second to none and we think the green Weekend warrior eco harness and matching lead is absolute spot on for her!
Lastly, we have the ever-handsome big boy, Puggy Smalls! He’s so gorgeous but impossible when it comes to finding something that fits! That’s when Hurtta came to the rescue with the slickest dog gear I’ve ever seen him in! Puggy has been rocking the Hurtta Monsoon coat in Blackberry, which is a rich dusty grey that suits him perfectly. The entire jacket is adjustable meaning we can customise the fit to Puggy’s exact shape! Not only is the coat super warm but it is entirely waterproof with a soft and adjustable tricot collar keeping water and chills off his neck and chest without sacrificing any comfort! It has belly flaps to protect against mud and sand as well as reflectors for visibility and of course a hole for his harness hardware to peek through! It’s perfect for him and he seems confident, comfortable, and carefree when wearing it!
