As a Hampshire native, I have fond memories of the Isle of Wight growing up and love heading there with my doggies as there is so much to see and do!
We often go for a jam-packed day trip, but we love to spend a few days there, when possible, to make the most of the local restaurants, pubs, festivals, stunning scenery and excursions.
Whenever we head to the Isle of Wight, you can guarantee we will book with Red Funnel to get us there quickly and safely. We usually take the car, but it’s also super easy as a foot passenger too, as the island is easy to navigate using public transport.

It’s so easy and the staff are always lovely, helpful and welcoming as they check you in and guide you onto the ferry.
The journey is less than an hour and as soon as you have parked up, you leave your car and head upstairs to the multiple seating areas, lounges and decks.
There is a dedicated dog friendly lounge, so our doggies, Pops and Puggy Smalls had a wonderful time making new friends and relaxing during the journey.
Us humans usually grab a tasty meal at one of the many on board cafes and a barista coffee to set us up for the day. We are always delighted to find water bowls dotted around for the dogs, as well as lots of doggy treats and essentials on sale, so you can ensure you have everything you might need for your island adventure!
The ferry takes less than an hour, before you are back in your car and on your way. It docks as Cowes, which is a wonderful starting point to explore the island by foot or by car!
With countless beaches, coastal walks and foot paths, the Isle of Wight is one of the most dog friendly and dog welcoming places we have ever been, which is why we return time and time again. But there Is so much more to see and do, even better when your dog can come along too!
For foodies like us, the Isle of Wight Garlic Farm is heaven! We always stock up on locally grown black garlic, chutneys, oils and garlic butter. The quality is unparalleled, and the best part is, the entire shop, cafe and grounds are dog friendly! Once we stock up, we always take the dogs on a quick tour of the farm and to bark at the chickens!
If you’re a lover of British heritage, then you should totally head to Osborne House, once the private residence of Queen Victoria, now an English Heritage destination that welcomes people and pooches of all ages. Dogs are welcome everywhere except fort the main house. Which is fine by us as the architecture and grounds are breath-taking. It’s the perfect place to mooch around for hours, with a beautiful woodland walk that leads down to a dog friendly beach. Perfect during warmer weather to cool off!
The steam railway which is dog friendly, is a super fun experience and you can get some killer photos! If you get a chance, we also recommend heading South of the island to see 'The Needles', an iconic landmark attraction with lots of lovely viewpoints, cafes, ice cream parlours and costal paths to walk your pooch!
There is just so much to see and do that you will be spoilt for choice. Every time we visit, we accidentally stumble across new areas, beaches, shops, pubs and towns and its unusual to find a place that doesn’t welcome our fur babies!
When we visited recently, we discovered Ventnor beach and seaside town, bustling with dog walkers. Some locals recommended the Spy Glass Pub on the seafront, so we headed there and indulged in some tasty pub grub by an open fire. The dogs were very welcome here and were even given water bowls and treats. Absolute bliss!
Another must see is Ryde, a lovely seaside town with lots of quirky independent stores and coffee shops. It’s the perfect place for fish and chips on the sea front and most places were dog. Here we also stumbled upon "the Christmas imaginarium", a quirky little hidden gem dedicated to all things festive, and we always swing by to grab handmade gifts for family.
