I’ve always watched other creators’ film and record ASMR videos and admired the skill and tech know how I assumed they needed. In the past when I have ventured into audio specific content my searches have always stopped short as it all seemed so unbelievably complicated and geared toward experts, rather than newbies like me!

But along came the Sony ECM-S1 wireless microphone and its really changed the game for me! Check out my creation with Pops as she chomps, slurps and crunches her way through her favourite summertime snack, watermelon! We were able to monitor audio with headphones directly into the microphone or camera with ease and I was able to capture Pops dainty, delicate licks in such striking definition and I cannot get enough of it, I could watch and listen to this all day long and I’m already planning our next ASMR venture!

My husband Nick is my partner in crime and is usually the one setting up every shoot, but I singlehandedly set this up alone with a little help from Nick as my camera man! I recorded my first ever piece of ASMR content with my precious pooch Pops and I couldn’t feel more accomplished, I’ve got a sneaky feeling this could be part of a whole new series for Pops’ accounts which is very exciting to us as creators!

I’m sure my skills will improve as I start to learn more, but I cannot believe how simple and effective this microphone is and I cannot wait to use it more and more! The ECM-S1 is designed for ease of use, eliminating any hassle with wires and set up, this wireless mic’s receiver unit utilises the hot shoe mount on any MI interface equipped Sony cameras, so setting up takes seconds! Its USB and analogue outputs make it compatible with a much wider range of devices too!

With an impressive 150-meter range, this microphone offers users the freedom to place it wherever you like, giving us more space to get creative without worrying about the sound. With a huge variety of audio uses, the ECM-S1’s mic type selector enables users to switch from uni-directional, omni-directional, or stereo audio settings at the click of a button!

The versatile mounting options are a lovely touch, and the stand it comes with had ¼” thread for mounting onto a tripod or boom stick, if necessary, for me as a novice, the stand alone worked like a dream, and it was the perfect dachshund height for little Pops!

With its noise cut and low-cut filters, background noise and low frequency sounds such as wind and air conditioning are minimised which makes postproduction a breeze too! It’s such a user-friendly microphone and I am pleasantly surprised how simple yet effective was, from start to finish.

Nick, the videographer extraordinaire is equally as impressed with its versatility and it’s a firm favourite for us when we are on shoots with its 13-hour battery life and sturdy build. It’s the perfect multifunctional mic, whether you’re a tech guru or just starting out. Its small (157 grams to be precise) but mighty and forgive me for being shallow but I think it looks so slick and professional too!
