Ultra Sound teeth cleaning for Dogs - Pet Pavilion Hampstead, London

For those of you who know Pops’ journey, you will be aware of her past. She is a rescue dachshund who has had a pretty bad start in life. A few years ago she had to have 17 teeth removed due to neglect and abuse from the backyard breeder I rescued her from, and ever since, keeping her teeth as healthy as possible has been a top priority, as she doesn’t have many left!

I have tried everything to keep plaque at bay with Pops, she has powder in her food, her teeth are regularly brushed at home and she gets dental treats once per week, so when I saw the vet a few weeks ago for a dental check up, my heart sank when I was told she will need to be put under general anaesthetic for a full dental, which included a scale and polish.

I came away feeling like a terrible dog owner and very sad that Pops teeth are still not as good as they should be, so when I found out about the new Ultrasound teeth cleaning service at Pet Pavilion, I booked her in thinking I had nothing to loose!

Pops teeth have always been discoloured with staining, which I had thought was just years of neglect and “too far gone”, so I must admit I was sceptical, yet hopeful, about how effective this treatment would be.

The Ultra sound teeth cleaning is currently only available in the Hampstead Pet Pavilion store, with the intention of rolling it out company wide over the next few months. We had the first appointment of the day on a quiet Thursday morning. When we arrived we were greeted by the store manager and the groomer, Jenna, who seemed very confident that she could improve Pops dental health and assured me that the treatment will work very well and she shouldn’t need to have a vet dental under anaesthesia.

Puggy kept himself busy upstairs in the fully stocked pet shop, while Pops went downstairs to the grooming area. Pops was put on the grooming table and Jenna made both Pops and I feel very at ease. She spent some time chatting to us both and showing pops the product and the ultrasound tooth brush, so it wouldn’t be too scary when she started the treatment.

Its a simple, pain free procedure, with no vibrations, or noises. The groomer simply applied the product to the toothbrush, held It on the effected teeth for some time and as if by magic, the plaque that has stained Pops teeth for the whole 4 years I have had her, simply scraped off. I must admit, I was amazed that something so simple is so effective and Pops was very calm and happy for Jenna to work her magic.

The treatment time varies from dog to dog, and Pops initial session was only 20 minutes, but the results are staggering and I literally cant stop telling every dog owner I know about it! Sessions start at £60, but check out our top tips for a cheeky discount code!

We will be returning for another session later in the month to tackle Pops’ back teeth, and I have every faith that this treatment has saved Pops from having a general anaesthetic, as well as saving my pocket the £450 vet bill. She has a Hollywood smile, and the freshest breath now, all thanks to a 20 minute pain and stress free visit to Pet Pavilion.
