Every now and then a pet product comes along, and you know you’ll ever be without it.

Every now and then a pet product comes along, and you know you’ll ever be without it.

Pup & Kit released their PetNest bed at a time when we really needed it the most. It coincided with the time that our beloved Pug, Puggy Smalls became paralysed in his back legs and this bed has been an absolute game changer for us.

Puggy has Myelopathy, a painless spinal disorder that causes paralysis and incontinence. We were alerted to an issue in his spine many years ago after an unrelated issue required and MRI but were told it may or may not be an issue as Puggy got older and only time would tell. Sadly, for Puggy, the worst-case scenario became a reality, and his back legs stopped engaging rapidly.

It all happened so quickly that we all struggled to adapt, although Puggy was going through physical changes, the anxiety of it all was intense for the whole family.

I couldn’t bear the thought of Puggy sleeping alone, but equally it wasn’t working with him sleeping in the bed. His bladder incontinence was a nightmare, which is thankfully now alleviated by us learning to express his bladder, but in the early stages it was uncontrollable. My husband and I had countless sleepless nights worrying about puggy peeing the bed and being squashed, even though he’s tiny, this little pug knows how to take up a lot of space!

When the PetNest launched, we couldn’t get one quick enough. I honestly don’t think there’s a better pet product out there and its designed and built so beautifully, it still looks brand new over a year on!

It’s a simple and sturdy build with Allen keys and fittings included and it simply sits next to our bed, with discreet straps to stop it sliding. Its firm felt raised edges keep Puggy safe through the night, with dropped frontage, so he can scoot into the big bed for his morning cuddles, and I can reach my arm in to comfort him (and me) at any time! It has a handy felt shelf underneath which is ideal for storing extra blankets and it looks beautiful, which is so unusual for pet furniture!

The nest part is completely detachable too, so the bed part can be removed by unclipping two safety straps so it can be used as a day bed all around the house. This was never our intention as we bought it for the side sleeping element, but puggy is SO obsessed with the PetNest, it always ends up downstairs for his mid-day naps! It’s also big enough for our other dogs to squeeze in for a snuggle too, which Puggy loves!

When looking for a pet bed for our dogs, the number one thing we look for is comfort and quality. The squidgy, bouncy pillow in the PetNest is soft enough for puggy to drift off into a cosy dreamworld, but firm enough to support his aging joints. The cover is removable and machine washable, and the PetNest is as perfect today, as it was when it arrived over a year ago!

Call me dramatic, but the PetNest by Pup & Kit has been a miracle product for us, as it aided our transition into a new lifestyle as disabled dog parents so smoothly. Although Puggy can’t use his legs, he is anxiety free, knowing we are there right beside him and my husband and I can finally get a good night’s sleep, so we can be better pet owners in the long run!

If you’re in the market for a new dog bed that ticks every single box, then the stylish, luxurious, cosy PetNest is a lifestyle investment you won’t ever regret!
