Watergate Bay Hotel is the perfect destination for a contemporary, dog friendly get away.

Set on a spectacular surfing beach on the North Cornwall coast, Watergate Bay Hotel is the perfect destination for a contemporary, dog friendly get away.

Having stayed at Watergate Bay hotel last week, it’s safe to say we are all finding it very hard to get back to reality. We enjoyed a blissful two night break in one of their incredible beach lofts, with a four poster bed, roll top bath, panoramic views of the bay and the best part ….Our beloved pooches came too!

As many of you will probably know, we travel often with the dogs, and Pops and Puggy Smalls have stayed in some remarkable places all over the UK. But Watergate bay is by far our favourite and gave us a real taste of laid back luxury that we so desperately needed!

After a long car journey, we arrived exhausted but the staff made everything so easy for us. The beach lofts have their own designated parking spaces, so we didn’t have far to go before we met our very helpful host who checked us in, showed us around and helped us with our luggage. We were also shown the pantry overflowing with tasty goodies, which is available to all guests in the beach lofts. They have snacks and drinks available at any time, with all the crockery, glassware and other essentials you may need. I have no shame in saying that I dived right in and grabbed a slice of lemon drizzle cake to devour whilst we unpacked – and it was delicious!

Within half an hour of arriving here, we already knew two days wouldn’t be enough and immediately spoke with reception to see if we could extend our stay. Sadly, the whole hotel was fully booked and I can see why! So we decided to make the absolute most of the following 48 hours.

The room was epic. There are no other words for it. It was spacious, cosy, contemporary and had everything we could possibly need. The views over Watergate bay beach were stunning and the perfect spot for people (and dog) watching. There was also a huge bathroom with his and hers sinks, a massive walk in shower, premium toiletries and robes!

The main room had ample storage for our things, with hot drinks making facilities and fridge which is ideal if like us, you feed your dog’s fresh or raw food that needs to be kept cool. Dog bowls were also provided which was such a lovely touch!

Our room featured a roll top copper bath that looked out across the bay with a gas log burner right next to it, which was probably my favourite part! The dogs immediately settled in their beds by the warm fire, happily watching the world go by.

As soon as we settled in, we decided to get out and about and let the dogs burn of some steam. The lofts are so close to the beach, you literally head down a flight of stairs and you hit the sand. Pops and Puggy had the time of their lives, running, meeting other pooches, splashing around in the shallows and exploring the rock pools. I genuinely feel like core memories were made here and I’ll treasure this sunny, windy afternoon forever.

For the evening meal, we headed over to The Living Space, a casual, chic, dog friendly on site restaurant again, with epic views of the beach. We spotted a few pooches around the restaurant and Puggy and Pops were very happy to make some friends! We loved how the dogs were all bought a bowl of water and every waiter came to say hello! The restaurant had a lovely relaxed atmosphere, so we stuck around until after sunset and enjoyed the most perfect 3 course meal with the dogs before we headed back to the room for an early night.

After a blissful sleep, we were raring to go for day 2. We made the most of the morning and headed for a walkies along the beach and up the coastal path during sunrise. Naturally, we built up and appetite and although pastries and cereals were available in the pantry, we decided to head to Zacrys, another onsite restaurant within the main hotel. Zacrys isn’t dog friendly, however we set up camp on the Living space restaurant opposite and were able to grab a gorgeous buffet brekkie from Zacrys so we could be with the dogs. There was everything you could hope for in a breakfast buffet, with all the makings of a perfect full English, along with waffles, cereals, oats, pasties and heaps more. Naturally the dogs both got to taste the sausages and they rated them 10/10!

After breakfast we took some time to relax in the room with a coffee, before heading up to the pool! Of course, dogs aren’t allowed in this area, so we left them to nap in the beach lofts whilst us humans had a splash around in the pool and hot tub! There was also an epic sauna on site with stunning views that I could have stayed in forever!

After this, we had a quick lunch in the beach hut, an onsite dog friendly casual dining restaurant situated on the beach then headed to the spa for a full body massage that we highly recommend! The spa was so tranquil and peaceful that we stuck around for a few drinks in our robes before heading back to the lofts for a relaxed room service dinner!

I finished off the eventing soaking in the giant bath by the fire and treated myself to an epic fully loaded hot chocolate, that was so indulgent I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.

We grabbed some pastries from the beach loft pantry for breakfast on our final day and had brekkie in bed, as I couldn’t bear to leave! I also booked in a last minute facial treatment in the spa, to really make the most of my stay!

We reluctantly checked out at 11, then took the dogs for a final beach walk ready for our journey home.

We were all so gutted to leave this incredible venue and cannot speak highly enough of it. Every detail was considered and the whole place had a relaxed yet refined finesse. The staff were all amazing, so friendly and attentive without being overbearing and made our stay perfect.

The dogs slept the entire way home and both seemed so fulfilled from all the adventures and how dog friendly the whole place was. It’s unusual to find somewhere so special and luxurious that doesn’t just allow dogs, but welcomes them with open arms.

If you’re looking for a romantic get away with or without pooches, then look no further as this place is faultless.

Thanks for having us Watergate Bay, I’m pretty sure we will be seeing you again very soon!
