Preparing our pooches for winter with Wellness CORE Pet Food
This winter, we celebrate a whole year of Wellness CORE pet food. My pack of perfect pooches, Pops, Puggy, Pomegranate and YumYum have been happily chomping a variety of Wellness Core food and treats all year and the whole pack are thriving!
Wellness CORE is a Crufts-winning dog food brand. They believe that our pets well-being starts from the core. I can honestly say our dog squad have collectively never looked or felt better and that changing their food last year was the best decision we ever made for their welfare, health and happiness.
Our four dogs are all so different. In terms of breed, ailments, age, needs and preference, which has naturally been challenging to find a ‘one size fits all’ food option that benefits them all. But Wellness CORE knocked it out the park and for us, there is no going back!

As we approach another icy winter, its important our pooches stay happy and healthy. The dogs spend more time indoors and exercise less and some health issues become more apparent, and the temperatures fall. First off, we have Pops, the fussiest senior dachshund in the world! Pops is a rescue and as a result of abuse, malnourishment and neglect in her early years, has some issues with her teeth, fur and digestion. Over the years we have tried SO MANY dog food brands, and pops will either refuse to eat it, or it will give her a bad tummy. Wellness CORE have changed the game for Pops, and it’s been so heart-warming watching her run to the kitchen at mealtimes and gobble down every mouthful. As winter approaches and Pops turns 12 years old, she struggles in the winter month and can lose weight and muscle mass, her fur thins, her skin gets dry, and she is generally very sleepy.
With this in mind, we like to ensure little Pops is getting all the calories and nutrients she needs and the winning combination for her is Pops is currently the small flavour medley trays mixed with a little dry food as we like her to have different textures and ensure she gets her older teeth working!
Wellness CORE Small Breed Savoury Medleys are wet dog food recipes specifically geared towards small pooches like our tiny 4kg Pops! They can be fed as a complete meal or mixed with dry food, so we always add an extra sprinkle of the Wellness CORE small breed adult ocean dry food. Packed full of tasty salmon and tuna to provide pops with texture, crunch and plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids to promote healthy skin and to give her optimal energy! So far so good, and Pops is happier than ever, even in her old age!
Next up, or gorgeous greedy pugs! Puggy Smalls is 9 years old and like most pugs he is prone to weight gain, especially in the winter when he is less active.
so, this big boy has a specially formatted Wellness CORE low fat dry food combined with the mouth-watering wet food which he adores! We also treat Puggy with the Wellness Core Reward + mobility treats. These low fat, grain free turkey treats are perfect for training, snuffle mats and recall. Puggy finds them irresistible, plus they offer additional joint support with added glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate making them the perfect snackie for winter walkies in his doggy wheelchair! Puggy is currently sitting at the perfect weight which we have maintained for a few months now, and even his vet comments on how strong and healthy he is looking!
Our baby boy Pug, YumYum is approaching two years old. YumYum is a high energy pooch with some stomach sensitivities, but since eating Wellness CORE daily, all his stools have been firm and he’s incredibly happy at mealtimes. YumYum’s favourite is the Turkey, Goat and sweet potato wet food mixed with the small breed turkey dry food. There are also many single protein wet food varieties available, perfect for dogs with specific protein allergies! With so many recipe options, we always enjoy trying more flavour combinations to our doggies and we haven’t been disappointed with any thus far!
